THE OBJECTIVE OF A STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION IS TO ENGAGE THE KEY STAKEHOLDERS AND VOLUNTEER LEADERS OF AN ORGANIZATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A ROADMAP FOR LONG-TERM SUCCESS.
A successful planning process is evidenced in the members’ connectivity with the goals, purpose, and future direction of the organization. The planning process includes a series of tools that will help gauge stakeholder perception and identify relevant issues and concerns.
With a phased approach, a strategic plan should review things like current strategies, leadership goals, issues and concerns, and data analysis. Secondly, a SWOT analysis should be performed to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Upon completion of research and surveys, the mission and vision of the organization are revisited to ensure they remain relevant and goals and strategic objectives are established. The result is a strategic plan for future growth. Developing tools and templates to monitor and report on progress and results is the final step to implementing the plan.
Having a strategic plan in place for an organization paints a clear picture for growth and success.
